9. Conductors must enter up all the tickets on his Way Bill at each stage and must carefully account for the total number of tickets issued. It is in the utmost interests of the conductor to show due diligence when collecting fares to make sure that all are collected. In cases where the returns fall short, the conductor will be held personally responsible. 10.If the ticket punch should fail or lock, it should be reported immediately as possible to an Inspector, and he should note on the Way Bill when it went out of use and another was substituted. 11.Conductors will be held responsible for accepting foreign or counterfeit coinage. 12.All mistakes in giving change or due to the loss of tickets must be made good by the conductor. 13.Conductors should under no circumstances attempt to count their money until they have returned to the Cash Office. 14.Immediately after the stop the conductor must call out the next stopping place, and must give every assistance to the elderly and children on or off the car by not starting it in motion until they are seated or holding on to a handrail. They should avoid any un-necessary conversations with passengers but answer questions in a civil and respectful manner. 15.When starting a car the conductor must warn passengers who are mounting the staircase or entering a doorway to “hold fast please”. 16.Upon arrival at a stop the conductor must call out the name of that stop. 17.When not collecting fares the conductor must stand upright on the rear platform, back towards the driver keeping a sharp lookout for intending passengers. 18.All cars departing from the depot must properly show the correct destination. 19.Destinations must not be changed until after the final stop on each route has been passed. 20.Every time a car stops the conductor must signal to the driver that it is clear, and in doing so should have a clear view of the rear platform of the car in order to prevent any accidents. 21.On no account must the whistle be sounded in the lower saloon as a means of signalling to the driver. 22.Should it be necessary to couple a defective car to the rear of another car, no passengers should be allowed to alight from the car in service until it has been brought to a standstill. 23.When changing the trolley it must be turned in the direction indicated by the arrow on the canopy. In darkness the conductor must not change the direction of the trolley until all the passengers have vacated the car, and must not attempt to put the trolley back onto the wire until the car has come to a dead stand. 24.Conductors are strictly forbidden to apply the handbrake when the car is brought to a stand at a terminus. 25.Intoxicated persons or those behaving in a disorderly manner must not be allowed to board a car. Upon receiving any complaints or noticing bad behaviour, the conductor must act immediately to remedy the situation using a little force as is necessary. If this does not remedy the situation then the police should be called whilst all noise and confusion should be avoided if possible. 26.The conductor must not allow the distribution of circulars or advertisements upon his car. 27.It is of the utmost importance that conductors should pay special attention to their cars when departing from the Market Place on an outward journey at the correct time. They should never allow a car to depart a quarter of a minute before time, but up to a minute later in preference. 28.All tickets must be punched in the correct section and in the presence of the paying passenger.
