One ring – stop at the next stopping place. Two rings - move on. Three rings - indicates that the car is full and need not stop to take on more passengers, (though compulsory stopping places are still to be observed). Continuous sounding - stop immediately. The signals from driver to conductor will be as follows – One ring – come to the front platform. Two rings – replace the switch. Three rings – apply the rear brake. 20.Civil and respectful answers will be given to all inquiries from passengers, bearing in mind they may not be familiar with the service being operated. 21.Every passenger, especially ladies and children, should be treated with courtesy and due attention when boarding or alighting from cars. 22.Cars should not be started until all elderly ladies or gentlemen are seated to avoid the possibility of any accidents. 23.Passengers should not be allowed to sit upon the staircases or the guard rails. 24.Drivers and conductors must understand that if they have any doubts about descending an incline in safety, either on account of the condition of the tracks, the car or its equipment they should not proceed any further. In which case they should respectfully inform the passengers that the car would not be proceeding any further due to a perceived danger. Notification of these circumstances should be conveyed to an Officer of the Tramway Department as quickly as possible or by telephone to Head Office. This regulation to apply at all times but especially to the first cars out in the early morning. 25.All monies or articles left on a car must be deposited at the Tramway Office at the first available opportunity following discovery. Any retention of said monies or articles would constitute a felony. 26.Whenever any accident occurs happens on, or to a tramcar, or is caused by one, no matter how trivial or person injured even slightly, whether by falling whilst boarding or alighting from a car, the car should be stopped at once. The extent of injury and the name and address of the person or persons concerned should be taken down, and also those of any witnesses to the incident for a report to be admitted in writing to the Tramway Office, along with all the relevant details including the exact time and location. In the case of injury all assistance which may be required should be rendered. 27.Employees are strictly forbidden to accept or repudiate any liability in connection with any accident neither must they discuss the case with anyone other than the Chief Inspector or the General Manager. 28.Employees must not impart any details of accidents or the operation of cars to any person other than a recognised official of the tramway. Neither should they take instruction from any other than a tramway official. 29.No person is allowed to convert to his own use any property of the Corporation or remove anything that does not belong to him from the Corporation’s premises, except by specific permission of the General Manager. Any attempted dishonesty would be rigorously punished. 30.Drivers and conductors must remain on their respective platforms when standing at the termini, until their appointed time of departure. 31.Drivers and conductors are prohibited from doing any of the following – a) Gossiping or standing in groups whilst in charge of cars. b) From accepting any gratuities, fees or bribes under any pretence what-so-ever. c) From reading any printed matter whilst on duty either in the depot or upon a car. d) From sitting inside the car whilst it is on a journey. e) From entering into unrelated conversations with members of the public. f) From making signs, gestures or signals of any kind to drivers in charge of other cars. g) From racing with other vehicles on the highway.
