h) From defacing or marking the cars or any of the advertisements or notices attached thereto. 32.The address of every employee should be registered at the depot and any change thereof reported immediately so that this register may be updated. 33. Every driver and conductor when on duty should have about his person a copy of these rules and regulations, having signed to give his consent to be bound by them. 34.Should a driver attempt to diminish the receipts of his conductor by deliberately increasing or decreasing the speed of his car, or by not stopping promptly when signalled to do so by his conductor, or attempt to intimidate his conductor or be guilty of any other misconduct, then the conductor must make a report in writing for forwarding to the Manager. Whenever this occurs and no report is made then both will either be demoted or dismissed. 35.Drivers and conductors must keep a sharp lookout for connecting service cars and if that car is in view they must wait for it to arrive. Particular attention to this rule must be made at the following locations – a) On the Clayton-le-Moors Section at the foot of Burnley Road with cars coming from the Cemetery. b) On the Cemetery Section at the foot of Burnley Road with cars coming from the Clayton Section. c) On the Oswaldtwistle Section with cars coming from Blackburn. d) On the Rawtenstall Section at Peel Street with cars from Clayton-le-Moors and the Cemetery. e) On the Rawtenstall Section at Queen’s Square in Rawtenstall with cars from the Bacup and Crawshawbooth services. 36.In the case of snow and adverse weather conditions which may severely interfere with the services, all employees will be expected to show their willingness to co-operate with the Management in overcoming the problems. 37.Any grievance or complaint any employees might have should first be directed to the General Manager, who in all instances will give a fair hearing no matter who or what is involved. 38.Drivers and conductors must at all times pay particular attention to any Parcel Boys when travelling on their cars, by giving them every assistance in the handling of parcels, reporting any misconduct to the General Manager. 39.If any employee does not fully comprehend any rule or regulation, he may have it explained to him by the Chief Inspector, remembering that it is one of the responsibilities of that official to enlighten any employee in the proper discharging of his duties. 40.In addition to these rules and regulations new orders will be issued by the General Manager as the occasion may arise, and these will be posted upon the Notice Board within the depot. All employees must examine the Notice Board and the Book daily to acquaint themselves with any changes. No excuse will be accepted for any breach of this rule, as any orders that may be issued by the proper authority whether in conflict with these rules or not must be fully adhered to and observed whilst they are in force. INSTRUCTIONS TO DRIVERS. 1. Every driver must have his car ready on time for the booked service, and must be under the direction of the conductor whilst out on duty. 2. No driver must exceed the speed set down by the Board of Trade, which must be committed to memory. 3. Drivers in examining their cars before entering service must check that all maintenance has been done and repairs completed. Also that the fuse box contains sufficient spare fuses, that sand-hoppers are full and that lights and controllers are all in working order, in addition to which there is a short length of insulated cable, a point bar and draw chain, extra sand-bags and the telephone box key in the cab.
