the wages due. If there are insufficient wages due to cover the damage then it will become a debt recoverable through due process of law. 8. The wages of drivers and conductors shall be at the following rates – On appointment drivers 6d per hour, conductors 5d per hour. After 6 months’ regular service drivers 6½d per hour, conductors 5½d per hour. After 12 months’ regular service drivers 7d per hour, conductors 6d per hour. After 18 months’ regular service drivers 7¼d per hour, conductors 6¼d per hour. 9. The above rates of pay dependent upon cleanliness, good time-keeping, good conduct and efficiency and freedom from accidents for which they were found responsible, and with respect to drivers, economies in the amount of current consumed. All advances and promotions to be made at the discretion of the General Manager. a) Drivers and conductors on completion of one year’s service to October 31 st , will be entitled to one week’s paid holiday, whilst those who have completed one year’s service between November 1 st and December 31 st , will be entitled to three days’ holiday with pay. b) Those employees having one year’s service prior to June 1 st , will be eligible for holidays during the months of June, July, August and September, or during other months as thought convenient by the General Manager. c) Those employees having one year’s service between June 1 st and December 31st, will be eligible for holidays after the foregoing are finished, also arranged with the General Manager. 10.Wages will accrue from hour to hour but be paid once a week, up to a convenient date as may be fixed from time to time. Employees leaving the service of their own accord will not be entitled to receive the wages due to them until the regular pay day. 11.Any driver or conductor wanting to be absent from duty must make an application to the General Manager at least two days prior to his absence. Any employee going absent without previously making an application and receiving said permission will be liable to discharge forthwith. 12.In cases of inability to attend work through sickness, a written notice must be given to the General Manager before the commencement of a shift. If any journey or part thereof is lost as a consequence of an omission to forward notice, there would be a day’s suspension imposed upon him. In the case of a second offence the suspension would be for three days, and for a third offence there would be a dismissal. 13.Drivers and conductors must be on duty prior to departing for the starting points of the service as follows – Cars from the depot drivers and conductors 20 minutes. On relief drivers 5 minutes, conductors 10 minutes. In the event of a ‘relief’ not turning up then the men in charge must work the car until they were relieved. 14.Drivers and conductors will be expected to be responsible for the security and proper condition of their cars, including curtains, advertisement cards and all other articles when they are taking their cars out from the depot, unless receiving written permission to do otherwise. 15.Drivers and conductors are not permitted to allow other persons to perform any of these duties. 16.Staff found visiting a public house or under the influence of intoxicants whilst on duty, or in uniform will be subject to instant dismissal. 17.If it be necessary for either a driver or a conductor to leave a car, this must not be done without the knowledge of his fellow driver or conductor as the case may be. Under no circumstances what-so-ever may a car be left unattended. 18.Platform staff must be vigilant when looking out for persons wishing to ride especially at stopping places and alongside streets. 19.The signals from conductor to driver will be as follows –
