At Colne Town Council, we understand the great benefit that this festival brings to our local businesses and economy, and we encourage everyone visiting Colne, both local and further afield, to #ShopLocal and explore our wonderful bars, pubs, restaurants, cafes and shops. With family fun entertainment taking place throughout the weekend including buskers, fairground rides, facepainting and much more, we hope you all have a wonderful time at the 2023 Great British R&B Festival and I am looking forward to seeing the whole town coming together to make the 2023 festival the best ever!

BuSkErS COLNE

An extremely popular attraction at the Great British R&B Festival are our busker tents and buskers performing outside venues around the town. We have fond memories of 2022, when the sun was shining and the streets of Colne were packed with people singing along with some very talented local musicians. We are incredibly excited to do it all over again and make even more memories in 2023 with our four busking tents… so come on and enjoy some brilliant, free live music on our high street from 2pm until 8pm (ish) on Saturday 26th August and Sunday 27th August.

LoCaL MuSiC ScEnE COLNE - WEEK IN WEEK OUT

Photography by John Williams Local Photographer

Bonny Colne on the Hill, ‘Bluestown’, a jewel in the crown of the northwest live music scene. For over thirty years this quirky little northern mill town has played host to one of the most important community music festivals in Europe. Music oozes from the pores of this town. So many top class musicians have grown up here and cut their musical teeth performing in its pubs and clubs, and on its festival fringe stages. Some of them, who were young children when the festival debuted in 1990, will be gracing its main stages in 2023. Colne has always had a great live music scene. Four long-standing weekly open mic nights continue to attract young up-and-coming talent. New Market Street, ‘Blues Central’, boasts two dedicated grass-roots music venues in Boyce’s Barrel and Mojo’s, where you’ll find live music three or four nights every week. The Dresser’s Club regularly hosts both well-established and new local bands, and plays an important role in Colne Blues Society fundraising events. Many of the other bars, such as The Crown, The Commercial, and The Venue continue to be a part of a local live music scene that is burgeoning once again following the covid hiatus. And, of course, no fewer than fourteen of our great local establishments have pledged their support to the festival by becoming Official Fringe venues.

LoCaL MuSiC ScEnE COLNE - WEEK IN WEEK OUT

Right now Colne-based artistes are putting out everything from original blues music to

award-nominated jazz, americana and country to left-field indie. We have signed singersongwriters, rock bands, pop bands, covers bands and tribute bands, with members young and old. Colne musicians continue to find their way to Manchester, London, Europe and beyond, and have performed to big crowds on big stages. This little town punches way above its weight on the UK music scene, and long may it continue to do so.
