#AmazingAccrington - Autumn 2019

Murray Dawson, Chairman of the #AmazingAccrington initiative had this to say about the events to date: “When we first started the initiative, the focus was about engaging business leaders with the local community, as I’ve always believed it’s important to promote a sense of civic pride. It demonstrates to residents that business in the town has a genuine care for the local economy, workforce and community at large.” #AmazingAccrington’s achievements to date show the keen interest local businesses have in the area and the enthusiasm business leaders have to share, learn and grow as a team. Murray made a call for more local business leaders to get involved in the events: “I grew up in Clayton and am proud of my hometown. I want young people now to also feel this way – businesses have a responsibility to support their communities that are enabling their success. We need influencers and businesses to step up, be heard and be part of it.” To get involved in the next #AmazingAccrington we would love to hear from you. Previous #AmazingAccrington events have been hosted at several other successful local developments including The Globe Centre – home to British Telecom and Lancashire County Council, as well as The Electronic Cigarette Company, headquartered at the Old Fire Station and founded by the Accrington native Cooper brothers. These thriving businesses are yet more evidence that business in Hyndburn can and does succeed, but the question is are the public aware of what is on their doorstep? This is what the #Amazing Accrington initiative aims to combat. Step Up, Be Heard & Be Part of it… In conjunction with this fantastic news of local business success, the #AmazingAccrington initiative has also experienced a surge in numbers from local business leaders, who have come together to network, share, and learn about the latest insights into the local economy and its exciting new prospects. Starting as a grassroots campaign of just a handful of local leaders, today the initiative has grown to become a solid group of over 50 strong. Previous guest speakers have includedManaging Director ofWhat More UK and Chairman of Accrington Stanley Football Club, Andy Holt, as well as local councillors and experts in the industry.

Andrew Stephenson MP - Minister of State at the Department for International Development and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
