accepting Haslingden’s proposal, before a definite indication could be given as to their conclusions as to the timing and before any action was taken, they considered it proper that comprehensive information should be laid before them by their respective officials. At a meeting of the Tramways Sub-Committee the Tramway Manager recommended the purchase of a ‘Crawshaw’s Chemical Colander’, for the purpose of de-greasing the tramcars and omnibuses. It was resolved he could obtain this equipment. The Town Clerk submitted a communication from the Ministry of Transport regarding a revision of the Bye-Laws and Regulations which the Corporation were proposing to make. It stated “They had no objections to the use of double-deck enclosed cars on the section of the Oswaldtwistle route between Market Street Church and Union Road in Oswaldtwistle, providing that the maximum height from rail level to the highest fixed part of the trolley base did not exceed 14 feet & 6 inches, and that the final paragraph of Regulation 3 would be amended accordingly.” It was resolved to accept and approve this recommendation. June The Tramways Sub-Committee met and on the recommendation of the Tramway Manager it was resolved that a ‘Cyclone’ high pressure bus and tramcar washing plant should be obtained at a cost of £140. The Electricity & Tramways Committee met and the Borough Surveyor reported he would shortly be proceeding with the resurfacing of Blackburn Road, between Birch Street and the railway arch with ‘Linocrete’ and he suggested that whilst this was being carried out the tramway tracks should be resurfaced over this section at the same time. It was resolved the Tramway Sub-Committee consider this suggestion with powers to give the go ahead.
