PERMANENT WAY A new crossover was installed on Peel Street during November, 1923 at a cost of £ 640 , so as to allow cars on the Blackburn Service to move over to the correct side of the road immediately on departure. This has removed the inconvenience which previously existed with cars having to exit Peel Street into Blackburn Road and then having to cross over opposite the Market Hall clock. The benefit this has had is that it allows better regulation of the tramway services and has also illustrated the dangers which have arisen due to the ‘heavy’ increase in motor traffic, which fully justifies the extra expense. In common with many other tramways, our revenue has suffered during the past twelve months due to a depression in trade. Therefore it is impossible to predict with any accuracy the future of our tramway undertaking. I am however optimistic that even with a small improvement in trade, along with no serious unforeseen drawbacks and without any industrial trouble, we can look forwards to another successful year of operations.
