shillings for all under eighteens. It was resolved that this application should be referred to the Association of Tramway Authorities. It was further resolved that the Chairman or Vice-Chair and the Tramway Manager should attend a conference of this Association to be held in London on the 27 th to further consider this application. The Tramway Manager reported that also on the agenda of this meeting was the question of an increase in fares. In the light of this the Committee were asked to postpone any actions on this subject in the meantime. February The Finance Committee met on the 28 th , and resolved the following account be paid - Electricity & Tramways Account February schedule = £34,420 – 10s – 1d. March The Electricity & Tramways Committee met and the Tramway Manager reported that he had now assumed responsibility for the horse-drawn ambulance from the local Ambulance Corps, and had found it to need some ‘slight’ repairs. It was then resolved that he should obtain tenders and samples for a supply of new uniforms for the employees in the Tramway Department. The Chairman, Vice-Chair and Alderman Rawson would then deal with them. It was then resolved the Tramway Manager could obtain a ‘Keystone’ sand drier for use at the Ellison Street depot. The Borough Treasurer then submitted a tender for the renewal of the third party risks Tramway insurance. It was resolved to renew this policy with the General Accident, Fire & Life Assurance Corporation Ltd as from April 1 st next at a rate of 1 shilling per hundred road miles which was equal to a total premium of £340. The Town Hall & Markets Committee met and the Borough Surveyor submitted a plan showing the position of the proposed Gordon tramway shelter on the Peel Street side of the Market Grounds. It was resolved to approve this plan and to serve notice on the tenants whose stalls would be displaced. The Markets Superintendent was authorised to do his best to find these stall-holders alternative accommodation. April At a meeting of the General Works Committee, it was resolved that in lieu of War Bonus the salary of the Tramway Manager should be increased from £500 to £650 as from April 1 st last and would be increased by a further £50 from April 1 st , 1921. At a meeting of the Electricity & Tramways Committee the Borough Surveyor submitted a report on the repairs that had been completed on several sections of the tramway tracks, and about the perceived wear and tear on the steel upon the steel rails. The Tramway manager reported it would soon be necessary to renew certain lengths of the trolley wiring, and he was authorised to obtain the requisite copper cable. May The Town Council met when the Mayor announced they were in receipt of a further cheque for £400 from Mr Thomas Gordon JP, which was the balance of the cost of erecting the tramway shelter on the Market Grounds. It was resolved to convey their hearty thanks to Mr Gordon for his generosity. At a meeting of the Electricity & Tramways Committee, the Tramway Manager reported he had received tenders for the supply of uniforms for the employees in his department along with samples. These had been examined by Councillor Rawson who had recommended acceptance of the following, all from Messrs Briggs, Jones & Gibson. 1. 6 Inspectors tunics @ £4 - 5s – 0d each, trousers @ £2 - 6s – 6d per pair and overcoats @ £5 – 11s – 0d each. 2. 100 Motormen’s & Conductors’ tunics @ £2 – 6s – 6d each, trousers @ £1 – 7s – 3d per pair and overcoats @ £3 – 12s – 9d each. 3. 22 Parcel Youths’ tunics @ £2 – 2s – 6d each, trousers @ £1 – 6s – 0d per pair. 4. Plus 100 extra overcoats @ £3 – 5s – 0d each. All headwear supplied by A. Zeffertt of 40 Yolford Street, East London. 5. 6 Inspectors’ caps @ 8 shillings and 6 pence each, 100 Motormen’s & Conductors’ caps @ 6 shillings each, and 22 Parcel Youths’ caps @ 7 shillings each. All mackintoshes supplied by Messrs Charles Machintosh, Brook Street Works, Manchester. 6. 50 mackintosh coats @ £3 – 3s – 6d each. It was resolved to accept and approve these tenders accordingly. The Tramway Manager reported that he had received a request for the tramway standard at the corner of Rhyddings Street and Union Road in Oswaldtwistle to be removed and relocated. This was considered desirable owing to this location having been chosen as the site for the erection of a permanent War Memorial. It was resolved that he could carry out this work on the understanding that the cost would
