June A substantial quantity of overhead wire and rails had come onto the market from an undisclosed source, but was too large for Accrington to take on its own. However, Blackburn, Darwen, Haslingden and Rawtenstall all came together with Accrington and as a group were able to obtain this stock. After sharing it out, it was placed into store to be called upon whenever replacements were necessary. This proved to be a sound economic measure, and over the years it saved the corporation thousands of pounds. At a meeting of the Finance Committee, it was resolved the Electricity & Tramway’s Revenue Account of £11,341 – 7s – 0d would be paid. At a meeting of the Electrical & Tramways Committee, a Sub-Committee was authorised along with the Tramway Manager and the Borough Treasurer to look into the weekly compensation being paid to Mr J. Bridge, a motorman who had been injured in an accident on the Oswaldtwistle section some eight weeks previously. The Borough Treasurer and the Tramway Manager were authorised to settle a disputed account over some repairs to springs which had been completed during 1915. The Borough Treasurer then submitted a statement of accounts for the tramway undertaking for the year ending March 31 st , 1917, with a comparison from the previous financial year as follows - EXPENDITURE ITEM 1915/1 6 1916/1 7 Traffic Expenses £8,058 £8,135 General Expenses £2,891 £3,089 Repair & Maintenance £3,070 £3,744 Power Expense £5,946 £7,861 Banker’s Commission £10 £16 Blackburn Mileage £1,086 £896 Sub-Total £21,061 £23,741 Patriotic Payments £1,027 £872 LESS Haslingden Mileage £2,590 £2,854 Total Working Expenses £19,498 £21,759 Debt Repayment £4,257 £4,153 Income tax on profits £685 £776 Interest on dividends £4,375 £4,638 Motor Ambulance £102 £104 Depreciation & Renewals fund £476 - Total Working Expenses £19,498 - GRAND TOTAL £29,393 £31,430 INCOME ITEM 1915/1 6 1916/1 7 Car Receipts £27,809 £28,913 Parcels Receipts £962 £1,016 Postmaster General £163 £175 Advertising on Cars £261 £261 Rents on Church property £75 £75 Miscellaneous £2 £1 Banker’s Interest £12 - Dividends on War Loans £109 £13
