except Saturdays, between Accrington and Queen’s Square in Rawtenstall, where the Accrington cars would turn back. The 10-minute frequency on Saturdays would be continued after mid-day with the possibility of putting on extra cars to cope with any surge in traffic at the discretion of the Tramway Managers. This arrangement was agreed and confirmed by all the three parties. It was resolved the Borough Surveyor should obtain tenders for the painting of the extensions to the Tramway depot. The Borough Treasurer reported that Messrs Dick Kerr had requested payment on account of their contract to supply electrical equipment for the new tramcars currently in construction for the Corporation. He was instructed to make suitable arrangements for this payment. The Tramway’s Manager then submitted the following suggested alterations to the Tramway’s timetables - CLAYTON SECTION DAYS Present service New service Sunday s 09:30 & every 15 mins to 14:00, then every 7 ½ mins to 22:30. 09:30 & every 15 mins to 22:30. October The Electrical, Legal & Parliamentary Committee met, when the Tramway Manager was authorised to dispose of a number of umbrellas and sticks left on tramcars by sale, and to hand over the proceeds to the Mayor’s Distress Fund. November The Electrical, Legal & Parliamentary Committee met again to consider tenders for the painting which was required at the Tramway depot extensions. It was resolved to accept the one submitted by Messrs Foster & Son. They also voted to accept the tender of the Wilson Rolling Shutters Company for the provision of rolling shutters for the front of the new Tramway depot extensions. The Tramway Manager reported on the ‘irregular’ working on the through tramway service to Rawtenstall, due to some of the motormen taking more time than was necessary to complete the journey. It was resolved he should instruct all drivers to work this journey in the stipulated time, which in this Committee’s opinion was quite ample. A letter was received from the Postmaster General, intimating that the terms offered by the Corporation for the renewal of their agreement for the continued conveyance of Postmen, mails and other Post Office servants by tramcar, would be accepted for a term of five years at an annual sum of £175. It was resolved that an agreement would be entered into on these terms. December At a meeting of the Town Council it was resolved that the local ‘Pals’ Battalion could use the new tramway depot extension for the purpose of practicing their drills. The Electrical, Legal & Parliamentary Committee met when the Tramway Manager submitted an application for free passes over the system for a number of ladies who were giving their services gratis at local Military Hospitals.
