The ‘ John Bull’ Class, 2 built by Walker’s, Bury, (44/45), 2 built by Sharp, Manchester (51/52). No . Name. Type. Date new. Rebuilding date. These were also the first locomotives to be fitted with front cab plates, although they still remained partially open at the top and rear. No takers could be found and it was sold off to the ELR at a bargain price. At the time of introduction these were the two most powerful engines the Company owned and were designed for goods traffic.
