FRIDAY 22ND AUGUST 18:30 – 19:15: Design Rewind Design Rewind is a British rock/pop band from the North West of England, formed by Billy Strahan Jr. (vocals/ drums) and Jonathan Towers (bass/backing vocals). The duo first met in high school in Burnley in 2003, bonding over a love for Metallica before evolving their sound to include influences like Toto, Steely Dan, Tower of Power, and Hall & Oates. Officially launching in 2016, Design Rewind blends the energy of rock and metal with the melodic sophistication of ’70s and ’80s pop. While rooted in classic influences, the band delivers a fresh, modern sound that resonates with today’s music landscape. The Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival returns to the atmospheric Pendle Hippodrome for 2025, featuring 20 incredible performances across the weekend. Headliners include Beaux Gris Gris & The Apocalypse, When Rivers Meet, and Gerry McAvoy's Band of Friends. Celebrating the best in blues, the lineup showcases rising stars alongside 2025 UK Blues Award winners. 19:45 – 20:45: The James Oliver Band feat Norman Watt-Roy The powerhouse trio of James Oliver (guitar/vocals), Norman Watt-Roy (bass), and Mark Kemlo (drums) will hit the road in 2025 for a UK and international tour. James, one of the UK’s busiest and most acclaimed guitarists, has played over 3,000 gigs, won the 2020 UK Blues Award for Emerging Artist, and topped charts with his album Twang. Norman Watt-Roy, legendary bassist of Ian Dury and the Blockheads, has also worked with Wilko Johnson, Nick Cave, and The Clash. Drummer Mark Kemlo, with decades in the Rockabilly and R&B scenes, joined the James Oliver Band in 2022 after touring globally.

21:15 – 22:15: The Tom Attah Blues Band Tom Attah is a British blues musician based in Yorkshire, known for his powerful performances and deep connection to the roots of blues. His acoustic and electric guitar playing, along with his expressive voice, are inspired by the 1950s Chicago rhythm and blues scene, particularly the Chess

Records sound and legends like Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf. His electric band features award-winning musicians: Mat Walklate on harmonica, Paolo Fuschi on guitar, Bo Lee on bass, and Laurie Agnew on drums. Tom’s original compositions and expert blues knowledge have earned him features on the BBC, ITV, Sony Music, and Sky Arts.

Beaux Gris Gris & The Apocalypse are a dynamic California-based roots rock band that blends blues rock, Americana, country and soul into a powerful, genre-defying sound. The band was created and is led by Louisiana-born-and-raised vocalist and multi-talented artist Greta Valenti (Well Hung Heart), alongside UK British Blues Hall of Fame inductee Robin Davey (The Hoax, DVL, Well Hung Heart). Known for their soulful songwriting, electrifying live performances, and top-tier musicianship , the band continues to release singles from their third studio album, Hot Nostalgia Radio, on their independent label, GROW VISION Music & Records, while touring extensively across the UK, Europe and the U.S.

12:00 – 12:45: New Market Street Hot Club Our local opener for Saturday, New Market Street Hot Club, is an exciting new quartet bringing the timeless sound of Hot Club Gypsy Jazz to life, inspired by the legendary Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli. Hailing from Colne, this talented group features two virtuoso guitarists, a skilled double bassist, and an expressive violinist, combining to deliver swinging rhythms, dazzling solos, and infectious energy. Their performances capture the spirit of 1930s Parisian jazz, infused with their own modern flair. With a deep respect for tradition and a passion for performance, they’re quickly becoming a standout act in the local music scene.

13:15 – 14:15: Dirt Road Band The Dirt Road Band are a powerhouse blues-rock trio featuring Steve Walwyn (guitar/vocals), Horace Panter (bass) and Ted Duggan (drums). With decades of experience - Walwyn with Dr. Feelgood, Panter with The Specials, and Duggan with acts like Badfinger - the band delivers hard-hitting, high-energy performances. Originally a side project, DRB has taken centre stage, showcasing the chemistry and creativity of three seasoned pros. Their debut album Righteous, released in July 2024, earned critical acclaim. Described as “seasoned professionals with the energy of teenagers,” the band’s live shows capture the raw, instinctive magic that comes from years of playing at the top level.

14:45 – 15:45: The Chris Corcoran Big Band Multiple UK Blues Award nominee Chris Corcoran is widely regarded as one of the finest blues guitarists in the UK. Known for his impeccable tone, tasteful playing, and dynamic stage presence, Chris performs regularly across London, the UK, and Europe with both his band and trio. His style blends traditional blues with a modern edge, earning him respect from peers and audiences alike.

Beyond performing, Chris is an ambassador for the International Guitar Foundation Outreach Programme, promoting music education and mentorship. He also published his acclaimed instructional book Chromatic Blues Guitar Soloing, further cementing his influence in the blues world.

16:15 – 17:15: The Bad Day Formed in London in 2017, The Bad Day blend Americana, rock ’n’ roll, blues, pop, prog, and classic rock into a unique sound described as “Springsteen meets The Killers.” Their debut album Table by the Wall (2021) earned critical acclaim and international airplay. Their self-titled second album, mastered at Abbey Road, received 9/10 in Classic Rock Magazine and ranked 3rd in its Top Blues Albums of 2022. Third album The Irish Goodbye charted Top 20 in the UK Jazz & Blues charts. Known for high-energy live shows, they’ve

played top venues and festivals, with regular airplay on major global stations.

18:15 – 19:15: The Zac Schulze Gang Formed in Gillingham in 2020, The Zac Schulze Gang are a high-energy blues-rock trio led by guitarist/vocalist and Young Blues Artist Of The Year Zac Schulze, with Ant Greenwell on bass and Ben Schulze on drums. Their sound fuses blues and rock with touches of punk, funk, soul, country, and more. Known for their relentless touring, they’ve shared stages with Samantha Fish, Jesse Dayton, and Nine Below Zero. Winners of the 2024 UK Blues Emerging Band of the Year, they also played Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Festival and

Fairport’s Cropredy Convention. With a debut studio album due

in 2025, the band is fast becoming a major force in blues-rock.

19:45 – 20:45: Alice Armstrong Alice Armstrong is a powerhouse singer-songwriter celebrated for her impressive vocal range, emotive songwriting, and captivating stage presence. She delivers a bold fusion

of modern blues, funk, soul, and rock ’n’ roll, performing across the UK and Europe with her exceptional band. Her original music features deeply personal, relatable lyrics that connect with diverse audiences. Voted ‘Contemporary Blues Artist of the Year’ in both 2024 and 2025, Alice has also won the UK Blues Challenge and the European Blues Challenge. Her second EP, Live at Area 88, received widespread critical acclaim and became one of the IBBA’s most-played releases.

21:15 – 22:15: Errol Linton Errol Linton is a celebrated British blues musician and three-time winner of the UK Blues Harmonica Player of the Year award. Blending 1950s Chicago blues with Caribbean rhythms, his music reflects both his deep blues roots and Jamaican heritage.

Influenced by legends like Little Walter and Sonny Boy Williamson, Linton creates a sound that is both authentic and unique. The late John Walters praised him as “the real deal.” Known for his soulful style and masterful harmonica playing, Linton has earned critical acclaim and remains one of the

UK’s most respected and in-demand blues artists.

22:45 – 23:45: When Rivers Meet British husband-and-wife duo When Rivers Meet (Grace & Aaron Bond) made history in 2023 with Aces Are High, becoming the first independent rock/blues band to reach the UK Official Album Chart Top 10. Known for their raw authenticity and powerful live shows, they’ve earned titles like ‘Band of the Year’ three years running and a place in the UK Blues Hall of Fame. Their live album hit #1 on the UK Jazz & Blues Chart, and they’ve built a strong catalogue since debuting in 2019. Proudly independent, they recently released their fourth studio album, Addicted To You, which reached number four on the Official UK Albums Chat and topped the Americana, Jazz & Blues and Album Downloads charts.

Known for their top-quality musicianship and passionate tribute, the band offers a show filled with unforgettable moments, engaging audiences with authentic renditions of Petty’s greatest hits. 13:15 – 14:15: Blue Nation Blue Nation, a powerhouse trio from Birmingham, consists of Neil Murdoch (vocals/guitar), Luke Weston (bass/backing vocals) and Nick Sharman (drums). Their electrifying, riff based melodic blues rock blends iconic influences like The Beatles, Cream, Led Zeppelin and Britpop ’90s with modern inspirations such as Rival Sons. They’ve performed twice on the Main Music Stage at the F1 British Grand Prix and toured the UK, Europe, and NYC with legends like Steve Conte and Skid Row. Winners of the UK Blues Awards’ Emerging Act of the Year 2025, Blue Nation’s latest album, The Ordinary People, was released in September 2024.

14:45 – 15:45: Burning Rope Burning Rope is the exciting new band formed by former Catfish members Paul Long and Adam Pyke, joined by guitarist Alex Voysey and drummer Mitch Weaving, who also toured with Catfish. Born out of family tragedy and loss, the band channels their emotions and resilience into powerful music, determined to keep the spirit of their past alive while forging a new path. Their setlist includes some

of Paul Long’s songs from Catfish and previous projects, alongside fresh material written over the past year, complemented by a selection of unique and unexpected covers, promising a compelling live experience.

16:15 – 17:15: Gerry Jablonski Band Gerry Jablonski & the Electric Band are an international touring group with a decade-long history of electrifying festival, theatre, and club performances across Europe, Scandinavia, and the UK. Known for their energetic, no-holds-barred stage presence, they deliver a unique heavy blues rock sound characterized by gutsy riffs, catchy hooks and powerful melodies. Their intense live shows captivate audiences everywhere, building a loyal fan base. Praised by Classic Rock Magazine as “the best band you never heard of,” Gerry Jablonski & the Electric Band consistently prove their ability to connect with and thrill listeners anytime, anywhere. 18:15 – 19:15: Johnny Mullenax Tulsa native Johnny Mullenax grew up in a musical family and started playing guitar at age five. As a teen, he attended the Walnut Valley Festival, famously sleeping in a stand-up bass case. At 18, he played in a live hip hop band, backing rappers. Johnny embraces musical diversity, believing life’s too short to stick to one style. His wide-ranging influences - from AC/DC and The Ramones to John Coltrane and Parliament - shape his unique genre-bending sound, which he describes as a funky country bluegrass good time. Johnny’s adventurous spirit makes his music fresh and unpredictable.

19:45 – 20:45: Paul Lamb and The King Snakes Paul Lamb is widely regarded as one of the

greatest blues harmonica players of our time, with a career spanning over thirty

years. Inducted into the British Blues Awards Hall of Fame alongside legends like John Mayall and Alexis Korner, he has sold record-breaking albums and performed worldwide. Known for his soulful blues and electrifying live

performances, Paul leads the King Snakes with outstanding musicianship. Their latest album, Live at the Royal Albert Hall, cements their top-tier status. Expect a thrilling mix of blues, boogie, and swing from this celebrated band, delivering unforgettable shows every time.

Brave Rival are a high-energy rock band from Portsmouth, known for their raw, riff-driven sound and electrifying live shows. Formed in 2019, the quartet - vocalist Lindsey Bonnick, guitarist Ed ‘the Shred’ Clarke, bassist Billy Dedman and

drummer Donna Peters - burst onto the scene with their 2022 debut Life’s Machine, earning praise from critics and Joe Bonamassa himself. Their 2024 follow-up Fight or Flight scored 9/10 from Classic Rock Magazine, praised for its ambition and fire. Gerry, who played on every Rory album from 1971–1991, is joined by fellow Rory bandmate Brendan O’Neill (drums), forming one of blues rock’s tightest rhythm sections. Guitarist Paul Rose, handpicked by Rory in a Fender competition, brings raw authenticity, while Jim Kirkpatrick (FM) adds soulful vocals and technical brilliance. 19:00 – 20:00: Dirty Ruby Dirty Ruby, a five-piece modern blues band from the East Midlands, formed in 2018 and have toured extensively across the UK’s blues bars, clubs, and festivals. They released the live digital EP ‘The Bunker Sessions’ just before lockdown and are currently working on their debut album. Known for their eclectic, sharp-edged modern blues with a ‘70s vibe, their sound draws comparisons to Stone The Crows and Vinegar Joe, featuring Troweresque guitar and Doors-like elements. Gaining acclaim from venues and critics, Dirty Ruby recently earned a top 20 nomination for the UK Blues Federation Awards’ Emerging Blues Act of the Year.

20:30 – 21:30: Harris Rafferty Harris Rafferty, a singer-songwriter from northwest England, crafts evocative songs rooted in personal experience and observation. Growing up near the Pennines, he embraces his mantra, “No Gimmick Indie Rock,” blending soulful lyrics with raw indie energy. Harris has shared stages with artists like PP Arnold, Che Aimee Dorval, and Merry Hell, resonating with diverse audiences. Influenced by Sam Fender, Paolo Nutini,

and The Killers, he’s working on his debut EP. His single “Eighteen,” a reflective anthem about growing up, has been praised in the Lancashire music scene, marking him as a promising new voice in British indie.

22:00 – 23:00: Wadcutter Blues Wadcutter, formed in Huddersfield in 2022, delivers dancing blues with big sounds and joyful energy. King’s Blues Club in New Orleans, where producer Harold Marcho

discovered him and helped record his debut single, Sailing. He usually performs with his trio, Kaspar & The Swamp Dogs, featuring Ian Davidson and Mia Casey. Kaspar and his cohorts are writing a new chapter in the history of British blues. More blistering singles and scintillating gigs to follow in the coming months.

Working with producer Kenneth Nixon, Ashley recorded his modern take on deep south blues rock in Nashville. After years as a solo artist performing hundreds of gigs, he formed a blues rock trio. Their sound blends gritty blues, falsetto vocals and a dynamic rhythm section, creating a unique style. The band has earned UK Blues Awards nominations, toured with international artists and gained airplay on popular radio stations, steadily building their reputation in the blues scene.

19:15 – 20:15: Cold Flame Derbyshire blues band Cold Flame, usually known for powerful original blues rock and Jethro Tull covers, will perform acoustically at this year’s festival. The four-piece lineup - Pat Rowbottom (vocals/bass), Rob Barnes (vocals/acoustic guitar), Paul Newland (violin), and Vince Walton (percussion) - showcases their versatility and blues roots. Their set features a mix of original and traditional acoustic blues, including tracks from their two acoustic albums, One Man’s Wood and The Acoustic Collection. Kyla Brox, award-winning singer-songwriter and daughter of blues legend Victor Brox, is hailed as “the finest female blues singer of her generation.” Winner of the UK Blues Challenge 2018 and European Blues Challenge 2019, she’s a leading figure in the UK blues scene. Known for her tender, gritty voice blending blues and soul, Kyla has grown from grassroots pub gigs to headlining major festivals worldwide, including here at the Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival last year. An independent artist with thousands of albums sold, she’s acclaimed as one of Britain’s best soul-blues vocalists.
