Material Cutter

Material cutters work in the production of textile items using a range of fabrics and materials such as canvas, cotton, leather, silk, vinyl and wool. As a material cutter you may work on bespoke or mass-produced items which may include handbags, shoes, clothing, tents, industrial textiles and home wear products. Your role will involve the cutting of specified material components by hand or by machine using templates or measurements. In preparation for cutting, you will select the correct materials by following instructions, check materials for quality issues, and plan, measure and calculate material usage to ensure waste is minimised. If you have an eye for detail and are able to distinguish between colours and patterns this could be the ideal career for you!

You will take a Skills Scan to ensure your current maths and English are at the required level.

Assessment

• Workplace observation and questioning. • Interview underpinned by a portfolio of work. • Multiple choice test.
