TECHNICAL TERMS EXPLAINED

These are practical tests to check your current level of skill in a particular area or subject, such as English or maths. Skills Scans

These are practical skills in English, maths and ICT. You will study Functional Skills in English and/or maths at Level 1 or 2 as part of your Apprenticeship, if you don’t already have GCSEs at the required level. Depending on your Apprenticeship, you may also study ICT Functional Skills. Functional Skills

Initial Assessment

At NLTG, this involves the completion of an application pack, interview and skills scans. You will have an Initial Assessment before you start your training to check your current level of skill.

CV (Curriculum Vitae)

Your CV will provide employers with details about where you studied, the qualifications you have gained/are taking, any work experience/jobs you may have held, your skills/abilities, hobbies/interests, a personal statement and details of your referees. A referee is someone who can provide extra information about your skills/ experience, and may be your current or past employer, a teacher, tutor or lecturer.

Portfolio of Evidence

The ability to read and write (another name for English). Literacy

A set of documents and evidence that you will collect to show the skills and abilities you have developed during your training.

This is your chance to say why you are the best person for the job you are applying for. It is a short paragraph stating your strengths (e.g. reliability, team working and communication) and the abilities, skills and knowledge which make you suitable for the role. Personal Statement

End Point Assessment

This is the way in which the level of knowledge, skills and abilities you have developed during your training are tested. It may involve creating a portfolio of evidence, demonstrating the skills you have learned in a practical session, project work, tests or a mixture of these and other assessments.

The ability to understand and Numeracy

work with numbers (another name for maths).
