Accrington’s FREE Light Event! Accrington will be transformed into a spectacular display of light, as we welcome some of the most incredible artists to our town.
A light trail around Accrington Town Centre will allow you to see our beautiful heritage buildings in a very different light, with contemporary art experiences to savour. Free-to-attend and organised by Hyndburn Borough Council, join us on Friday 25th October and Saturday 26th October between 5pm and 9pm. On Sunday 27th October there will be a free performance by local-born solo violist David Aspin in the Town Hall, while upstairs in the ballroom at 1pm and there will be a ticketed live music gig, organised by event
Baker & Bliss, Glowing & Growing
partner Baby Rock Sampler, for parents/carers and their children.
Glowing and Growing is an immersive and interactive glow-in-the-dark co-created installation. Come and make the space GLOW and GROW through some fun, creative activities: • Make a glow-in-the-dark sculpture to add to the installation • Add your glowing handprint • Become a living sculpture • Add a message on a label Then come back for Enlighten to see how the space has been transformed! Immerse yourself in a symphony of voices and internal chatter, a conversation between body and mind thanking and acknowledging the amazing things our bodies do every day. Let your senses be illuminated by the fusion of sound and light, offering a unique glimpse into the wondrous interplay of our minds.

Paul Alty, Black Hole – End of Time Black Hole - End of Time is an immersive, multimedia performance by Paul Alty, an award-winning lighting designer and composer. A black hole floats as the air fizzes with lasers and projections, creating a 360 degree sensory experience, set to an ear-tickling electro-cinematic soundtrack. Orbit a black hole whilst gazing into a crystal star sky with clouds swirling at your feet.

Supriya Nagaranja A daring and innovative duo, Sonic Threads transcend cultural and genre boundaries as they seamlessly merge Eastern and Western influences in their performances. They are joined by sound artist Duncan Chapman for this performance. Supriya Nagarajan brings her evocative Indian vocals and merges it with exhilarating western harp played by Lucy Nolan and together they take listeners on a journey from India to Europe.

David Aspin David Aspin is the principal viola of the Orchestra of Opera North and a viola tutor of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. He is passionate about chamber music and is a member of the Manchester-based Pleyel Ensemble and also appears frequently as soloist. He will perform the premier of the concerto by Arthur Bliss in November 2025 with the Sinfonia of Leeds. Originally from Accrington, he is proud to be on the Culture and Heritage Investment Panel in Hyndburn. David will be performing as audiences arrive into the Town Hall for the Baby Rock Sampler Event from 12 noon on Sunday 27th October.

The Enlighten Trail, Kazia Cannon
The Augmented Reality (AR) Enlighten Trail, a visual history AR Walking Trail in the town centre, will provide an historical journey, where visitors can explore historic images of Accrington through their mobile phones. The Enlighten Trail has been created in partnership with the ‘Keeping East Lancs in the Picture’ project, where local people have gathered and digitised images of the town, comparing Accrington today with Accrington of old.

Illuminos, Dragon Projection Illuminos are brothers Matt and Rob Vale, who for over 10 years have been creating visually inventive, memorable projection artworks and experiences. From Chicago to Cyprus, Illuminos work on high profile events internationally, with their works ranging from very large scale illumination to small scale imagery, but always working to create something unique and specific to the location and viewer. Prepare to be amazed!

House of Light, Lamplight
Lamplight is a new commission for Enlighten. The light installation will take place in the Victorian Arcade, headed up by artists House of Light, offering a unique illuminated walk through this beautiful and historic Victorian Arcade.

Schools project, Spoken word & poetry This is your chance to hear from our surprise guest speaker and local schoolchildren, as they come together to perform wonderful spoken word and poetry. Students from St Andrew's CE Primary School, Accrington Woodnook Primary School and Hyndburn Park Primary School will perform readings about Accrington and what it means to them. Make sure you arrive early to get a seat!
