#AmazingAccrington Soapbox Challenge 2023

It’s that time of the year again folks, the #AmazingAccrington Soapbox Challenge is back on Saturday 26th August! We can’t wait to welcome you in your thousands to Accrington for what is going to be an incredible spectacle… the competition is fi erce, as teams battle it out to topple ‘Chicken Run’ – victors in the last two Soapbox Challenges here in #AmazingAccrington. A fast and frenetic race down our 170-metre long track, there will be jumps, water pumps, pit lanes and brand new for 2023… ‘the wall of death.’ This year, we are adding an interval between the karting and what a line-up we have in store for you. From Brazilian-style dancers and a Samba band, to Vuvuzelas and performances from Blowjangles and the Hyndburn Comets Majorettes, we are going to enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend in style. We are also encouraging people to use the break to #ShopLocal and visit local eateries to enjoy the amazing food and drink on o ff er. Back by popular demand we also have The Code Show returning to Accrington Market Hall. A local coding roadshow celebrating how 1980’s Britain embraced the home computer. Do you remember the BBC B Micro, Sinclair ZX81, Sinclair ZX Spectrum, and Commodore 64? They’re all available, plus much more for hands on experiences, a trip down memory lane and a look into the future. Come along to play on the games – and be inspired to get into coding yourself. Exhibits also on display include a Sinclair C5 and 1980’s technology, such as a dial up telephone and video recorder, that in the 21st century fi ts into your mobile phone as an app!
