We will be using this opportunity to celebrate women & girls football, and hopefully recruit more players to help us to continue to grow and develop. It will be
Accrington Stanley Women FC played a historic match in front of a record crowd at the Wham Stadium, against international side Isle of Man National Women’s Team earlier this year. For our home game versus Preston North End Women, we return to the mighty Wham Stadium! Interest in women’s football is at an all time high with the recent success of England’s Lionesses in the FIFA Women's World Cup. The home game at the Wham Stadium is a showcase for spectators to show support for the women’s game, and for children to be inspired by the skill and talent of the women. The outstanding facilities at the Wham Stadium will certainly make it a day to remember – and Accrington Stanley Women are looking to beat their record crowd of 1139 keen supporters who joined them last time! We have also invited local junior teams to come down and join the crowd, so look out for them in their kits. We might inspire some future Lionesses! Chair of Accrington Stanley Women, Sami Smithson, commented: “We are absolutely delighted to be able to play a home game in the superb facilities of the Wham Stadium, and what a treat for our opposition Preston North End Women, and our supporters. “We would like to beat our record attendance of last time, made the decision to offer free tickets so that the match is accessible for all. Maybe seeing the match will inspire more young women to join our teams – we have over 200 players across all age groups!
a fantastic day for women’s football!
