Introduction – This qualification provides you with an introductory knowledge of working in hospitality and catering. The qualification is formed of mandatory units, including preparing to cook, understanding food, exploring balanced diets and planning/ producing dishes in response to a brief. Entry requirements – Four GCSEs at grade 2/3, either maths or English at grade 3 and the other at grade 2. Progression – You can progress on to the Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery or the Level 2 Food and Beverage Service.

Introduction – This professional cookery qualification is the ideal starting point if you are wishing to pursue a career as a chef. If you have the correct entry requirements, you can start your career path at Level 2, with progression onto Level 3 upon completion. Entry requirements – Four GCSEs at grade 3 and above, including maths and English. Progression – This qualification allows progression on to the Level 3 Professional Cookery course.

Introduction – The Level 3 professional cookery qualification is the next step to progressing into a career as a chef in the catering industry. With this qualification, you can work to secure higher positions within the industry upon completion, access higher education, or enter the workforce in roles such as: chef de partie, sous chef, or even head chef. Entry requirements – Five GCSEs at grade 4 and above, including maths and English or Level 2 professional cookery qualification. Industry experience is considered on an individual basis. Progression – Learners can progress into various job roles within the catering industry varying from chef de partie to sous chef dependent upon experience and skill set. This could also lead to higher education which usually specialises in certain areas such as Level 4 Advanced Culinary Skills, Foundation Degree in Hospitality Management.

Applicants who have not achieved at least a grade C/4 in English and maths will continue to study these subjects alongside their chosen college course.
