COMPUTING AND SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT

Levels 1, 2 & 3

Information and Creative Technology Level 1 Introduction – If you are interested in a career in the IT industry, this course is a good start for you. You will study a variety of units to develop your IT skills. Entry requirements – Two GCSEs at grade 3 and 2 or equivalent in relevant subjects and English and maths. Progression – Successful students will be able to progress on to a Level 2 course.

Information and Creative Technology Level 2 Introduction – If you are interested in a career in the IT industry, this course is a good start for you. You will study a variety of units and carry out lots of practical activities. Units include technology systems, website development, installing and upgrading software, installing and upgrading hardware, and computer networking. Entry requirements – Two GCSEs at grade 4 or equivalent in relevant subjects and English and maths at grade 3 (D equivalent) or above. Progression – Successful students will achieve Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*. To progress to our Level 3 IT course you will need to achieve a Merit or better.

Information Technology – Software Development Level 3 Introduction – You will study 18 units over the two years. Units include programming, computer game design, computer graphics, animation production, systems analysis, computer systems, maintaining computer systems, website development and spreadsheet modelling. Entry requirements – Five GCSE passes at grade 5 (or equivalent) and English and maths at grade 4 or above. Progression – Successful completion of your course will enable either progression to Higher Education (Higher National Diploma or Degree) or professional employment.

Applicants who have not achieved at least a grade C/4 in English and maths will continue to study these subjects alongside their chosen college course.
